I recently entered a photo contest and discovered just how difficult it is to choose a photo to enter. Here are a few of the images I considered. Which 3 would you choose?
The Patrol
This one was tough. Coming up with an image to fit the text was a challenge. When I finally got away from thinking “Marine” and started thinking of other types of patrols I immediately thought of Meerkats. They always have scouts posted to protect the clan while they forage. Adding the Marine Helmet tied the image to the text.
I love the Meerkat’s relaxed attitude, which is what this type of patrol was all about.

National Geographic
Probably the closest I will ever come to working with NG is the King Tut Cover Story for the magazine I design, the Village Courier. NG was kind enough to give me access to their Press FTP so I could download images from their book Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs.
I tried to stay true to their style.

Crazy Manager Theme
This is the best in a theme I created depicting our new restaurant manager in various predicaments/situations. It became quite popular with both the staff and residents. The theme included the Manager’s face on the Terminator with the slogan “I’ll be Back…with more Specials” and running from a rhino in Africa with the caption “Our Manager forgot to raise our prices again…but then he had other things on his mind.”
This image is a composite of 3 photos, the horse and rider, the forest and the Manager’s face. The mask was only added at the last minute because the Manager was sick of looking at himself everyday on the posters. Afraid I will have to move on to a new victim next month…
Thanksgiving
I just had to throw in this design, since I was not allowed to use this for our restaurant. I guess they were afraid some people would be offended, but if you notice, it does NOT say “HAVE us for Dinner”!
